INFLUENCES
Graduated with a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of California at San Diego in 1998 on theoretical models of efficient communication networks. My adviser Audrey Terras is a wonderful mathematician and friend. I am also grateful for all of the help from Harold Stark and Ron Evans. INTERESTS
TRAVEL & ADVENTURE
I have river rafted in the US and Venezuela. I'm an advanced certified PADI scuba diver and have done dives in Hawaii, most of the Caribbean, and the Maldives. Over the years I have visited 26 countries on 4 continents, but I'm still waiting to visit Africa, Australia and Antarctica!
HOBBIES
OUTSIDE OF WORK
Besides a love of computational science, I have a love of art and music. I have painted, made ceramics including raku and more recently have learned glass blowing. I play flute and oboe. Many moons ago I was first chair oboe in the Boulder Youth Symphony, then played jazz flute my first year in college. I truly believe that mathematics and art are one: they both are fascinating in their evolution.
I also love the outdoors: snow skiing, scuba diving and camping. I've been a Scout leader for over 10 years, have been to 3 of the four high adventure bases (No. Tier, SeaBase & Summit) and have been on staff for 3 major events (National Jamboree, NOAC and World Jamboree).
