Graduated with a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of California at San Diego in 1998 on theoretical models of efficient communication networks. My adviser Audrey Terras is a wonderful mathematician and friend. I am also grateful for all of the help from Harold Stark and Ron Evans. Fan Chung Graham is also an influence of mine as well as Winnie Li.
I have river rafted in the US and Venezuela. I'm an advanced certified PADI scuba diver and have done dives in Hawaii and through most of the Caribbean. Over the years I have visited 24 countries on 3 continents, but I'm still waiting to visit Asia, Africa, Australia and Antarctica!
FACTS ABOUT ME
Besides a love of computational science, I have a love of art and music. I have painted, made ceramics including raku and more recently have learned glass blowing. I play flute and oboe. Many moons ago I was first chair oboe in the Boulder Youth Symphony, then played jazz flute my first year in college. I truly believe that mathematics and art are one: they both are fascinating in their evolution. I also love the outdoors: snow skiing, scuba diving and camping. I've been a Scout leader for over 10 years, have been to 3 of the four high adventure bases (No. Tier, SeaBase & Summit) and have been on staff for 3 major events (National Jamboree, NOAC and World Jamboree).
